| Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is characterized by the fact that malignant swelling is found in the safety sac which coats the majority of the body's internal organs. Physicians label it mesothelium. Nevertheless, they accuse asbestos as the major reason of this form of cancer if a person inhales these small parts. This illness is rather uncommon, but very serious and in most cases fatal. As it's already clear the term mesothelioma comes from mesothelium, a safety covering that coats and shields most of the internal organs of the body such as the lungs and heart. The diagnose of mesothelioma is made when cells of the mesothelium get uncharacteristic and divide without control. Besides, they can influence and damage nearby tissues. Mesothelium itself is composed of 2 layers of cells: one sheet directly covers the organ; the other forms a sac around it. The main designation of mesothelium is to produce a lubricating fluid that is released amidst these two layers. This allows such moving organs like beating heart and the expansible lungs to slither without any difficulty against adjacent structures. The name mesothelium is quite rarely used to cancer processes. The reason is that coverings shielding different organs have different names. Thus, sac of the heart is known as pericardium, coat of the lungs and chest cavity is often called pleura, coat of the stomach is often called peritoneum. The most widespread location of mesothelioma swelling is pleura. Note that reproductive organs of men and women are also coated with mesothelium but the cases of mesothelioma cancer in these areas are very rare. The mesothelioma swelling has two forms: a benign and a malignant sort of the cancer. The benign sort is not going to lead to fatality. A diagnosis of malignant Mesothelioma is often fatal, but not always. A Mesothelioma diagnosis was a death sentence twenty years ago. This is no longer the case. If you, a friend or a loved one is diagnosed with it, do not give up and be aggressive in seeking cure. |
