| Cala Galdana Commonly known as the Queen of Menorca’s Beaches Cala Galdana is a extremely sheltered keyhole bay. Surrounded by white sands, conifers and high cliffs the bay has its entrance well guarded. The bay is excellent for swimmers. Cala Galdana is situated in the middle of Menorca’s southern coast. Cala Mitjana This small natural cove faces south and is close to Cala Galdana. It is reached from the same road by taking a left just before you reach Cala Galdana on the road south from Ferreries. Just follow the track to the free car park and a 5 minute walk brings you to this little known cove with low white cliffs covered in pine trees. Cala Mitjana offers ideal conditions for swimming and snorkeling. To avoid the crowds, especially at weekends, keep walking along the coast to Cala Mitjaneta. Both beaches lack facilities so remember to come well prepared for the lack of basic amenities. Cala Mitjana can be reached on foot by walking east for 20 minutes from Cala Galdana. Es Grau This stunning horseshoe bay with fine golden sands is backed by sand dunes on the edge of a thickly wooded area of the nature reserve. The beach is therefore close to the natural wetland reserve of Albufera with it's diverse wild bird colony. From here you can take a boat trip to the tiny island known as Colom where you will find two more beautiful sandy beaches. Situated in the east of the island only a short drive from the capital at Mahon, Es Grau must be on most visitors list of favourite beaches. Son Bou This beach must feature on everyone's list as it is the longest sand beach on the island. Backed by sand dunes, and freshwater marshes teeming with bird life including the famous Ducks on the nearby freshwater lagoon ; you should not miss a visit to the ruins of the fifth century Bascillica at its eastern end. All types of watersport are catered for from the imfamous Banana Boat to Sub Aqua courses which are available here although you should take care to check the conditions for swimming as there are dangerous currents at times. The weatern end of the beach, away from the hotels and the town, hosts an unofficial nudist beach. Son Bou can be reached from Alaior by taking the road south from the Me-1. As you approach Son Bou look out for the caves in the cliffs as you pass through the tunnel. Originally burial chamber they now have a place as holiday homes for local people. Cala Pregonda Just to the west of Fornells on the North coast of Menorca|Menorca's northern coast} is Cala Pregonda. The area surrounding the beach is a protected location due to its outstanding natural beauty. Accessible only on foot a 20 minutes walk from Binimella brings you to Cala Pregonda. The beach is a outstandingly beautiful stretch of sand with rock formations and hills coated in Pine and Tamarisk. There are no facilities available here but your efforts will be well rewarded with an outstandingly Beautiful beach with space for all to enjoy the superb swimming on offer.
