| Start by measuring the width and height of the door frame allowing for the necessary clearance. You may not find a door to the exact size so will have to purchase the next size up and trim the edges to fit. Transfer the measurements to the door. Plane equal amounts from the two side edges. Now trimming the height of the door you can use a saw but finish with the plane. Sand all edges with an abrasive paper until smooth. Two hinges are sufficient but on heavier doors or doors hung in kitchens or bathroom areas where it is humid three hinges would be required. Hinges fit into recesses of an equal depth in the door frame and the stile. Use a very sharp wood chisel with a wide blade for making them. The top hinge needs to be about 250mm from the top of door and the bottom hinge about 250 mm from the bottom of the door. Mark hinge positions with a pencil using the hinge itself to trace the dimensions and hole positions. Cut the hinge recess using a chisel and wooden mallet. Cut the door edge along the outline and to the correct depth. Drill pilot holes in the door for the hinge to fit. Test fit the hinges to make sure they fit correctly. With the door in the open position, use wedges to raise the door to the required height to clear the flooring. Carefully mark the side of the door through the screw holes on the hinge. Making sure the hinge knuckles are parallel with the frame. Remove door and chisel out the hinge recesses in the door frame in the same way. Put one screw into each hinge to check the door fits neatly. Any adjustments can be made now. When you are satisfied the door is hanging neatly you can fix the remaining screws onto the door.
