| It seems just like yesterday when the weather is hot. Now, winter is back. A lot of people are already preparing their home heating system in time for winter. Heating oil tanks are being refilled here and there. People are looking for ways on how to cut down on home heating expenses; otherwise, they will have to spend a fortune throughout the winter season. Here are some ways that will help you save money without compromising warmth this winter season: • Use heating oil instead of other home heating energy sources. Heating oil is very cost effective. It is safe to use and can generate heat faster than most other energy sources. Heating oil prices are not that high as well. You can get yourself a good deal on heating oil. You will be able to save a lot of money especially if you buy heating oil during the other seasons. • Don’t just leave the unused windows without seal. If the windows aren’t used, it is better to cover them with plastic or other material that will be able to seal the windows. Heated air can come out from the drafts of the windows. Your home heating system will have to work harder to replace the heated air that has escaped. You will just be surprised later on that your home heating expense is more than what you have expected. • Most people would leave the home heating system turned on when they leave the home. This way, the home will still be warm when they come back. This is not a bad idea; however, when you have to leave the home, make sure that you turn the setting of the thermostat to low. This way, your home heating system won’t be working too hard and won’t be consuming too much heating oil. You should do the same at night. Turn the setting to low overnight. If you have a programmable thermostat, then you can program the heating system to turn low after a few hours. • It is not all the time that you have to turn on the home heating system. If you are just staying in a small room, you can just use a portable heater. They consume less energy and they are very efficient in heating small areas. It is a good idea to always have a portable heater at home. You will be able to save a lot on home heating if you use a portable heater every now and then instead of the home heating system. Winter is winter – it will always be cold. Stay warm this winter season without worrying about high expenses.
