The Great Ocean Drive in Australia is also something to look forward to. It is recognized as one of the greatest travel experiences in the world. This site was built in memory of the Australian soldiers who gave up their lives during the World War I. It was excavated manually along the mountainous area of Warrnabool and Toequay to achieve the impressive scenic drive that is now known around the world. The constant waves hitting the stones along the seashore has lead to the formation of striking rock sculptures that now line the beaches. Among the most popular ones are the Twelve Apostles. Considered as the special feature of Port Campbell National park, these stacks of limestone were once part of the cliffs that line the shoreline. Over time and due to erosion, these rocks got separated from the cliffs and eventually became the tall rocks standing proud in the midst of the ocean waters. Just an hour drive away from Melbourne is the country’s most visited winery, the Yarra Valley. Yarra Glen is known as an agricultural and dairying farm and home to the 50 award-winning wineries. A hot-air balloon ride is best suggested to enjoy the spectacular vies offered by the town. Aside from the wineries, the area is also populated by a number of forests, mountains, antique shops, national parks, wildlife, and gourmet restaurants. These restaurants serve superb world-class dishes and are usually attached to the wineries. Built with glass walls, these restaurants give the guest a better view of the vineyard and the valleys. Another place which is also an hour drive away from Melbourne is the Mornington Peninsula. Gifted with sandy beaches, the area is a haven for people who love doing aquatic activities like sailing, fishing, surfing, scuba diving, or simply swimming with the seals and dolphins that frequent the beaches. The area is also famous for its Chardonnay and Pinot wines. Many artists also visit the place because of its famous historic homes and gardens and their works of art are usually found in the equally-popular galleries and craft markets in Red Hill and Mornington. Another tourist destination in this area is the Mornington Peninsula National Park. Consisting of Fort Nepean and it defenses which are an old army base and a quarantine station, the park offers a beautiful walkway which is surrounding it. The beautiful beaches are also something to enjoy and the inland boasts of its 50 vineyards which produce famous red and white wines. Pinot Chardonnay, Merlot wines, and shiraz, viognier, and some pignot gris are some of its popular products. There are also restaurants that serve gourmet foods, which go well with the wines that the wineries produce, that can be found in this area. Noosa in the southern coast of Laguna Bay is another tourist attraction in Australia. Celebrities’ vacation homes abound the area which sits in a beautiful headland, with the mouth of the Noosa River in the west of the town, the beach on the east, and the Noosa National Park covering the headland itself. The area is also popular for its high dunes and heath. Surfers also frequent this spot for its water offers a very good opportunity to do water sports like fishing, kayaking, jet skiing, and windsurfing.
